Diagnostic Services
An overview of diagnostic services offered in clinic
-
Pathology
At Monash Veterinary Clinic, we offer a wide range of in-house pathology services to support fast and accurate diagnosis for your pet. Our on-site laboratory equipment allows us to perform most full blood count and biochemistry tests, often providing same-day results to guide immediate treatment decisions.
We also provide in-house progesterone testing, which plays a key role in timing natural matings, fresh and chilled transcervical inseminations, and determining the optimal timing for elective caesarean sections. Results are typically available within a few hours, enabling us to offer timely and precise reproductive care.
For more specialised testing, we partner with a trusted Melbourne-based veterinary pathology laboratory. These tests are sent externally and results are usually returned within 24 hours to 5 days, depending on the test required.
Once results are available, your veterinarian will contact you to discuss the findings and recommend a personalised treatment or breeding plan.
Our pathology services are an essential part of delivering thorough, responsive, and high-quality veterinary care.

Digital Radiology
Radiology is an essential diagnostic tool in modern veterinary care. At Monash Veterinary Clinic, we use state-of-the-art digital radiography to obtain high-quality images quickly and non-invasively—helping us diagnose injuries and illnesses with accuracy and efficiency.
Our advanced imaging system produces clear x-ray images in under 10 seconds, with immediate results available to guide your pet’s treatment plan. Digital radiology allows us to examine bones, joints, and internal organs, and is commonly used to assess conditions such as trauma, lameness, coughing, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
In addition to diagnosing illness, we also use radiographs for health screening and breeding assessments, including:
- Canine Hip & Elbow Dysplasia Scheme (CHEDS) scoring
- PennHIP scoring
- Hemivertebrae screening (Thoracic & Lumbar spine)
- Full-term pregnancy x-rays for litter size estimation
These specialised radiographic evaluations support responsible breeding and early detection of structural or developmental issues, helping pets live longer, healthier lives.

Ultrasound & Endoscopy
At Monash Veterinary Clinic, we offer in-house ultrasonography and video endoscopy to assist in diagnosing and monitoring a wide range of medical conditions—without the need for invasive surgery.
Ultrasonography is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. It is commonly used to assess the abdomen, heart, bladder, kidneys, and liver, and is especially valuable for investigating symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, or changes in organ function.
Ultrasound also plays a vital role in reproductive care, including:
- Pregnancy diagnosis
- Monitoring fetal development and heart rates
- Assessing timing for elective caesarean sections
Video endoscopy enables our veterinarians to examine internal areas such as the gastrointestinal tract, nasal passages, upper airways, and urinary tract using a small camera on a flexible scope. This allows us to visualise problem areas and obtain tissue or fluid samples—all without the need for surgical incisions.
Together, these advanced imaging tools provide clear, detailed insight to support accurate diagnoses, proactive care, and improved outcomes for your pet.
