Puppy Preschool

We invite you to bring your puppy to our Puppy Pre-school Course at Monash Veterinary Clinic. It is an enjoyable way to encourage early socialization with both other dogs and humans, introduce basic training, and help with educating both owners and puppies.

Many behavioural problems seen in dogs can be due to lack of proper socialisation and training in the first critical weeks of their life. With this course, you can feel confident that you will be giving your puppy a good head start in his or her development into a well-behaved and confident adult dog.

The "critical period" for socialisation, handling and training is between 8 and 16 weeks of age. During this time, your puppy will retain everything it experiences and learns, which is why it is important to expose him or her to as many novel things as possible in a non-threatening and safe environment. This early socialisation period is very important, as even a small amount of experience at this age can have long lasting effects on your dog. For example, puppies that are not exposed to other dogs (or people) during the early stages of their life are more likely to develop aggressive or fearful responses to other dogs (or people) later on, just as puppies that are not regularly exposed to new things can develop phobias later in life.

The four-week program is run by qualified trainers from K9 Connect on-site at our clinic.

The Power Up Pup puppy pre-school program is specially designed for dogs that are aged between 8-16 weeks.

This class is all about getting started on the right paw and is your first step of your dog's training journey.

Whether you have had a puppy before, or are starting off training for the first time, the Power Up Pup program is a great place to begin.

This puppy pre-school program covers a variety of skill sets including:

• Socialisation and exposure to lots of experiences

• FUN bond-building games for you and your pup
• Lifestyle manners
• Training obedience skills
• How to start building focus and attention

• Helping with typical puppy problems like mouthing and biting, jumping up, house training (not toileting inside)
